Monday 17th of April

16.03 Just got seated on the train from Sundsvall to Arlanda. A new journey and journal has begun.

19.25 We (Christer and I) have reached Arlanda airport. Christer has bought a bottle of contact lens fluid. Let´s see now what happens before we check in to this evening´s sleeping place.

21.58 Dinner was served at the airport restaurant Alfredo´s. We chose kebab. Now it is time to check in at "Rest and fly", in room 20 to be precise. Not very big but with two large beds. The total cost is around $ 80.

Tuesday 18th of April

06.03 I just got back to the room after a shower. Christer is talking in his cell phone with Roberth. Soon the three torsos are reunited again.

07.34 All three of us have checked in, all backpacks were considered as special luggage. Christer and I have had breakfast. Roberth who came with the night train from Östersund have been drinking coffee all night.

07.50 Seated in the aeroplane at seats 15A-C. Here as in earlier planes there are no seats 13. Now it is time for take off. We are flying with SAS Snowflake. Destination is Zürich in Switzerland.

SWITZERLAND

11.00 We landed, got beaten by the luggage in the race to the luggage carrousel and now we are seated on the train to Zürich Hauptbahnhof. A new country is being visited, a new scalp is taken.

Roberth and Peter at Zürich Airport.

Newly arrived in Zürich from the railway station.

12.00 I am right now sitting on the side of the bed in room 24 at Hotel St-Georges. Now we just have to gather ourselves before we go out on the town for something to eat and drink. Roberth, who is allergic to feathers has ordered a new pillow and cover.

Searching for a lunch restaurant. St Jakob´s church is in the picture too.

12.40 We just met a fast-biking Jew with red hair, it´s true...

13.21 After some walking and a little talking we ordered in food at restaurant Celia. I will try the pasta of the house, pasta and veal. My colleagues are going for pizza. The three of us will drink beer. We gave up our plans to find a special pub with its own brewery. We found the street but it was way to loooong..

14.10 It tasted great and cost a lot to dine here, a pizza for $ 14.

Trams near Lake Zürich.

14.44 We have after a walk along a canal reached and got seated at the shores of Lake Zurich. We´re sitting here and looking out over the lake. It is really beautiful, boats and swans in the water. Here the spring (summer?) is in full bloom.

15.37 We just had ourselves some espresso and are now ready to see more of the city. We might buy something. We just have to see about that.

16.10 We are sitting on a bench beneath the Grossmünster church. Earlier we had our picture taken in front of a laying clock. A man with Jewish heritage also got caught on the picture. We´ve also seen an elderly lady with slalom ski goggles, perhaps an old alpine skier? Some rain has fallen.

Grossmünster church towers

16.43 It is time to sit on a bench again. This time outside Bahnhofstrasse 80. We have walked through the old parts of Zurich, seen churches and expensive shops where the owners had lunch and drank champagne.

A walk through the old parts of Zürich.

17.31 We just got ourselves tickets for tomorrow´s train ride to Buchs. The cost ended up at 32 franc/head. That is $ 25.60.

18.30 The walk home took us past a synagogue and inside Denner grocery shop for some purchase. Now we are back home to rest our legs and feet. Roberth has got himself some new bed friends. Zürich is a really nice city. Just enough sights. The prices shouldn’t be mentioned, one of the most expensive places anyone of us has visited.

20.22 Looking around on what our TV has to offer. The Swiss German sure sounds strange. I guess we will have dinner soon. The weather forecast promises +18° on Friday.

Swiss chocolate in a strange shape.

21.29 It´s dinner time at Rheinfelder Bierhalle at Niederdorfstrasse 76. We have ordered something from a pig with rösti.

21.55 Surely something from a pig. It was pig kidney, sliced in small, long pieces. Definitely filling and not bad at all. The dish was called nierli.

22.28 Back at our hotel. This journey started well.

23.07 A dear old tradition is kept alive. We are having a balcony beer each.

Wednesday 19th of April

07.43 I just woke up. The alarm call on our cellphones will soon ring. After that it is time for a shower, breakfast, packing, summery and finally head of for a new scalp.

08.15 At last I was able to have a shower. The man before me sure took his time. Now Christer is in the shower. Soon it is the final exam for this place, how is the breakfast?

08.55 The breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, bread, salami, ham, soft and hard cheese and milk. Only one word can sum this place up, Weltklasse! Roberth dropped his package of soft cheese in his juice glass. Next a swift walk to the station.

09.30 We just sat down at the places 40, 42 and 43 in the train. We first walked through a compartment wagon. The only available compartments were reserved for women, handicapped or small children. A remaining memory from Zürich is the fact that alongside the public payphones there are computers. I guess you can both call and surf the internet. Buchs here we come….

Swiss public telephone

10.06 To my left is Lake Zürich, to my right hilly landscape with houses and two wagons behind me the restaurant wagon. I can not swim or walk among the hills. I guess I can get me a cup of coffee.

10.27 I didn't have to go to the coffee. The coffee came to me. A man just passed with a coffee trailer. Around us is a stunningly beautiful landscape. High, snow covered mountains, green slopes with small houses and we also passed a turquoise green lake. We just passed the arena where the soccer team FC Mels plays their home matches.

10.56 The sun shines above us as we sit by the railway station in Buchs. We bought something to drink and Christer also bought an ice cream. The ice cream handle is made out of plastic and is elastic. The ice cream rocks.

11.20 We just sat down in the bus to Vaduz. Time for us to visit a new country. Time to take another scalp, this time Liechtenstein.

LIECHTENSTEIN

11.50 We entered our new country by crossing the river Rhine, got off at the bus stop Mühleholz and passed some merry animals, sheeps, goats and some donkeys. Now we got ourselves to the reception of our new home, the Youth Hostel in Schaan. Check-in opens at 17.00. Time to take our backpacks downstairs.

A goat came to greet us welcome to Liechtenstein.

12.27 We left the backpacks in the laundry room. After that we sat down outside the hostel and enjoyed the sunshine and the moment. There are a slide and a sandbox for the younger residents and a table tennis game with a table made out of stone for everyone. Now we wait for the bus to Vaduz centre. Right now we are doing some calculations regarding our economy. How much money will we withdraw?

13.21 We are now sitting outside the town hall in Vaduz. In front of us a fountain, ladies from USA with Diet Coke cans and Japanese tourists with cameras. The fountains consists of some mouthpieces that slowly pours water over the payment.

13.57 We just finished our lunch at Apero Bar Wolf. It consisted of sausage and pretzel for Roberth, bratwurst and French fries for Christer and hamburger and fries for me. Roberth and I chose beer and Christer chose water. We just realised that the beer cost just a little bit more.

14.51 After that I had posted some postcards we just sat down in front of the post office. We have to kill some time before we return to our backpacks and the Hostel.

"Unter den Linden"

St Florin Cathedral in Vaduz.

Coffee break at Café Burg, Vaduz.

Peter and Roberth in front of a well-kept garden in Vaduz.

15.37 After almost walking out of the town we decided to return to where we came from. Before we turned back we saw the parliament and the St.Florin cathedral. Now it is time for some coffee by the square where we rested at 13.21. The name of the resting place is Café Burg.

16.42 Vaduz Post is the name of this bus stop where we are sitting. The grocery store Coop we just visited didn't have any local wine. Now we await the bus back home. I hope the backpacks will be there waiting for us.

Vaduz

Roberth with the Liechtenstein flag.

17.19 We checked in in a room of our own, number 2. It is a double room with a mattress placed on the floor. We all got discount on the price. We were actually supposed to stay in a six bed room but all those rooms are occupied. Breakfast is in the price. As we had checked in a guy in his teens asked us ”What team?”. I answered "Travel team" and Roberth added "A-team". I wonder what he meant with that question?

18.59 This is it. Time to return outside to see the second town in Liechtenstein today. Coming up is Schaan.

19.34 We are sitting opposite Hotel Linden-Pic and near the town church. On the way here we met a lady horseriding and a black woman who rode a bike and said Guten Abend.

The church in Schaan.

20.23 First we went to the Denner store in town, “Denner Satellit" and bought some stuff. Now it´s time for dinner at Gasthaus Rössli in Schaan. We have ordered a Menu 1 each. The first course is asparagus soup and then Truthahnschnitzel with French Fries and salad. What on earth is a/an truthahn? Now the bread, beer and ketchup landed on the table. By the way it seems to be asparagus week in this area. Perhaps a local tradition?

Dinner at "Gasthaus Rössli" in Schaan.

20.35 During soup Christer got an SMS from his phone company. They wished him a pleasant stay in Luxemburg. Have we walked too far or did the person at that company sleep during geography lessons? The soup was tasty, creamy and hot. Roberth gracefully snatched his napkin and sent his fork straight into his bowl of soup.

21.45 It was a delicious schnitzel, tasty fries and on top of all a huge cup of coffee. Now we found our way back again. The place is crowded with different nationalities, Cypriots, Northern Irelanders and Luxemburgers. They seem to be volleyball players. This is a bold guess based on the fact that one of them had a jacket that read "Northern Ireland Volleyball".

22.45 All around is the sound of silence. All one can hear is the sound of running water. Christer is brushing his teeth. We wont go abroad tomorrow. Even I have been greeted welcome to Luxemburg from the same company that said so to Christer. Well now it is time to fall asleep on the floor based mattress.
