Wednesday 10th of August

06.56 We have woken up. It is the last morning on the American continent for this time. Today our journey home begins. We are still in Belize City.

07.14 Now the last things will be packed down. We will back in Sweden again the next time we see our belongings.

08.10 We have cooled down on the porch here at Seaside Guesthouse and I went downstairs to check the codes for the accommodation in Nyköping. Crosby, Stills & Nash played on YouTube on your computer. I opened another window and went to Hotmail. Just as I got the mail, a man came and said I ruined everything. I waited a little while until the computer was free, returned to the mail and now we have the codes. We want to go home. Our hosts have been nice but some of the guests really strange. Two men outside our room have started to sort something out.

Peter is waiting for the departure from Seaside Guesthouse.

A cruise ship outside of Belize City.

08.46 Our hostess called the taxi driver we got the number from the other day and he showed up pretty soon. We are now in yet another airport. This time it is the Philip SW Goldson International Airport just north of Belize City. It is time to prepare the gaskets and check-in.

09.09 The backpacks are checked in, boarding passes are ready and outward papers are filled out. Now we will go to the departure hall.

09.31 Things are not going as I expected. We had to pay the departure tax in U.S. dollars. Now I sit here with way too much Belize dollars and not enough US dollars. It should have been the other way around. It had also been great if it had been possible to exchange money here at the airport. At the tax payment, I left on a coin that made the lady a bit confused. It turned out to be a 50-cent coin from Panama. Now we are having a coffee and sandwich each at La Petit Cafe.

10.09 We have spent Belize dollars on various gifts to loved ones. I have among other things bought a jar of marmalade. I wonder if I will be allowed to take it home or if it will get confiscated by any security. At the security check here a small American boy looked at Christer's T-shirt from the Belize Zoo and asked his mother why he was not allowed to get one. Christer was asked about the shirt and told them that the brand was new and probably had not been for sale earlier.

10.48 The first plane on our long journey home is boarded. Now the travel journal and my small rucksack will be placed on the luggage rack.

UNITED STATES

CHANGING TIME ZONE

14.12 Now we have changed our watches to Texas time. We have landed at George Bush Airport in Houston. The plane we flew with had no rows 9 and 13. I understand why 13 is missing but can’t explain while there isn’t any row 9. There is a problem to open the door to the gate or something. We are still in the plane. Outside the plane, it is a murderous heat. It feels good that we are going on from here.

15.15 We got off the plane and went to the passport control. We are still waiting in the queue to show our passports. There are plenty of people in many queues.

16.15 We finally passed the passport control. The backpacks were collected and I took the opportunity to put the jar of jam into my big backpack. We passed the security check, left the backpacks and hurried to the gate. There was no time to rest, above all, no time for any food or drink. I bought a Snickers and Christer some candy. Why should it take two hours for transit? U.S. is fairly unique in that you have to go through passport control, claim your baggage and stamped into the country when you're only going to change planes.

16.21 We are on board. I'm sure it is the same plane. We think we recognize the flight attendants. The plane is also lacking in row 9 and 13. It is also missing rows 15 to 19.

CHANGING TIME ZONE

21.12 We have reached a new time zone, Eastern Standard Time, a new airport, Dulles Airport in Washington DC and a new Starbucks, where we are having a small cup of coffee and essential nutrients. It's almost time for the third flight. There's not much free time here.

21.43 The team has been split. I´m sitting on row 43 and Christer on row 37. Now it is time to sleep. We will fly across the Atlantic tonight.

CHANGING TIME ZONE

UNITED KINGDOM

10.30 We're back at Heathrow Airport and have set the watches on British time. It's time to plan the rest of the activities here in the UK.

11.27 Now we are having a cup of European coffee each. We're at Costa Coffee. My left ear is blocked from the flying. I hope I will get rid of it. But we are supposed to fly more today and it might come back.

11.54 We have purchased a bus ticket for two to Stansted Airport. The machine refused to spit out the printed ticket. I had to put my hand inside of it and pull out our ticket.

Christer is having hot coffee and a muffin at Heathrow Airport.

12.07 Bus 727 will soon take us to the next airport.

13.31 The ear block is gone. The bus stopped at Stansted Airport and the backpacks were retrieved. I didn’t look out as I swung up the big backpack on my back and was about to knock an old lady who uttered the typically British expression "blimey!". Now we are sitting down and are thinking and planning.

14.36 We decided to go to Burger King. We thought it would be easy to understand what was being said, at least we thought so. The cashier Stef was hard to understand. Christer asked for a Whopper. Would you like barbecue or cheese and bacon said Stef. Barbecue was another option and cheese and bacon a supplement. She slurred even when it was time to order beverage. She finished on top by giving Christer 21 pence in change instead of £ 3,21. This was mentioned and Stef said that she would check with the surveillance camera. We sat down and soon she came with 3 pounds and an apology.

15.41 We are while waiting for gate clearance having coffee here at Starbucks on the other side of the last security check. Now a man with a prosthetic leg made of metal passed us. How does he act in the security check?

16.25 It is time for a last note with British time. Now, the diary is tucked away, the backpack is placed under the seat in front of me and the clock changed one last time. A day ago we were at the airport in Belize.

CHANGING TIME ZONE

20.19 We have during the last 27,5 hours been at six airports, in five time zones and been in four countries. Enough is enough. We are at Skavsta airport, waiting for Christer's sister to drive us into town. The last time we were here was for 52,5 days, 7,5 weeks ago.

It´s soon time to land on Swedish soil.

SWEDEN

21.52 Christer’s sister came, gifts were handed over and we were driven to a petrol station. There, we bought some evening snacks. As we came to the Railway Hostel we discovered new things. One, we have a new room that we never slept in before, room 6. Two, it smelled of liquor in my backpack. None of what I have had purchased on the trip had broken. What had happened was that the hand sanitizer had leaked. The old worn sponge bag in which the hand sanitizer had floated out into is now discarded and thrown. To avoid the same thing are we about to sleep.

We are waiting outside Skavsta airport.

Friday 12th of August

08.26 It's been really nice to sleep for several hours. Today the last trips will be made. Upon returning home, everything should be packed out. It is badly needed.

09.50 Now we have paid for us. We didn’t act as we are used to do here. We usually have placed the money and the key in an envelope and put everything in a small box. This time we handed over keys and money to a real human being in the reception area.

Railway Hostel, Nyköping.

10.16 Something else that was needed was breakfast. We had some in Nyköping Railway Café. For almost exactly on the day three years ago we sat here after arriving from Asia. Here we have just read about the latest trend, owling. The idea is to sit like an owl, let someone take pictures of it all and then put it out on the web. I think I'm emigrating!

10.42 We're back out in the Swedish summer. The Swedish wind, Swedish clouds and a Swedish sun. Now we are taking it easy before we get on one of the last means of transport of this year's trip.

11.21 Now we roll again. This time it's on a train with destination Stockholm.

12.35 We left the train and have headed out in Stockholm. Here in the capital we will have a walk, a rest and a lunch before the next train ride. We are currently seated close to Serafimerstranden.

13.14 It is time for lunch. We are at a new place for us, Thai Takeaway. It lies a short distance from City Hall. It's nice to sit in the sun.

13.50 It was good and we were satisfied. There is no need for large portions now. I do not know why. During our dining an old sailor?, walked around and helped out. I do not know if he was employed or. Probably he had some sort of relationship with one of Thai women here. Now we are sitting back on a bench along Serafimerstranden. We have a view of the Radisson Blu hotel.

A thai lunch near Stockholm City Hall.

Stockholm central station, the starting point of this trip´s last leg.

14.31 The final journey for both of us has started. We are going by train to Sundsvall. In the train company SJ:s events magazine, we have read that it is possible to buy a ticket for bus sightseeing in Stockholm between 10th of February and 32nd of December.

18.26 Christer's and my paths have now been separated. Now I have embarked on another journey. A bus will take me further north. This has been one of the most eventful journeys ever. The question is if it is not the best. Central America has moved in to a central place in my heart and my traveling soul.
