Sunday 8th of August

07.49 Christer has just climbed down from the bed above. Today we are slowly setting yesterday's plans regarding Rio de Janeiro at work. It is Father's Day today here in Brazil. None of us is a father or a resident of the country but we still mention it.

09.27 After a long and quiet breakfast on the patio, we´re now beginning to gradually get ready to leave the room and our hostel. Our room is in need of a ventilation and housecleaning. When we checked in neither the room nor the beds were clean.

10.02 It is still unclear whether we live in Catete, Flamengo, or both. The address of our hostel say Catete but the taxi driver claimed that our hostel is located in Flamengo. We are in all cases out there, peering in the district of Flamengo now. When we stopped to take pictures of a church, Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Glória at the subway station Largo do Machado a gentleman said "Thank you, goodnight," something else, “coffee” and finally offered shoe shine. Now we are at a small roundabout with a statue José de Alencar in the middle. He was a novelist and nationalist.

Largo do Machado.

The street is called Rua do Catete. The area is called Flamengo.

10.19 We’ve taken us out on to the busy street Praia do Flamengo and are now awaiting a bus which will take us towards the day's activities.

10.30 Yet another turnstile on a bus is passed. We’ve started our bus ride to the Urca district. Christer has come up with the sensible suggestion that we shall stop and walk a bit before we get to stop at the Sugar Loaf mountain. Then we can have lunch and relax before we head up.

10.57 The bus journey went through the district Botafogo and finally reached Urca. It is time to for a break on a stone wall. Away on Mount Corcovado Jesus Christ is standing with his arms stretched out. There are clouds around him so it looks as if he is smoking. He looks small from down here. This is the second this year and third overall of the world's new seven wonders that we’ve seen. Behind me is the sea. Garota da Urca, the restaurant where we were thinking of eating has unfortunately not opened yet.

Botafogo and the mountain Corcovado with its famous Christ the Redeemer statue..

Praia da Urca.

A fisherman in the sea and the skyline of the central parts of Rio de Janeiro.

11.40 Urca is a lovely little district here in Rio de Janeiro. It is a bit on the side, has an easy pace and is safe. It is also in the shadow of the big Sugarloaf Mountain and has the cosy bay of Praia da Urca. After a little walk along the streets of Urca, we are back at the restaurant Garota da Urca. It is still not open but people are working in there. What should we do now? Should we continue to wait or go somewhere else?

12.04 We turned back to the Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf), and soon reached the valley station of the gondola. We are thinking about where we should eat. Christer has just noticed that there are some people who are climbing the rock wall in front of us.

12.39 There was no sensible place to have lunch at near the cabin station. We returned to the Garota da Urca and now they have opened the place. The place is crowded. It was a good idea to eat our lunch before we are going up with the cable car. Christer has ordered Spaghetti Bolognese and I have ordered a pizza with bacon and onion.

13.02 The spaghetti arrived to Christer and pretty soon a pizza with bacon and bananas to me. Something had gone wrong. Out with the banana pizza and in with ... yes we'll see.

Sunday market in Urca.

Our lunch restaurant, Garota da Urca.

14.02 My pizza arrived and was consumed. Christer went to relieve the pressure and I was waiting for my turn. The door opened and out came an old, dark-skinned man with a cane. I had expected to see Christer and was surprised to say the least. He eventually appeared and we went back to the gondola. Now we have bought the tickets and just missed the departure towards the first stop. The next one is here, time to go!

14.12 We are on the way up to higher altitudes with the gondola Bondinho (http://www.bondinho.com.br). It is now time for the first stop. The ears got blocked on the way up here. A helicopter just shortly landed in front of us before it flew again. It is possible for those who have plenty of cash to make a helicopter trip from here. The view from here is enormous, fabulous, wow! It is not cheap to take the cable car but it's worth every penny. A ticket up to the highest peak will cost around 27 US-dollars.

14.29 A regrouping has been made. Now we are sitting by a round table. Behind me I have the sea, city and the beaches. To my left is the highest part of the Sugar Loaf mountain. Soon we´ll take the next cable car to take us right up there.

The trip starts and so does the photography.

A view towards Botafogo.

A helicopter is landing on the Morro de Açúcar.

View of Urca.

Suddenly we noticed people arriving in a different fashion.

14.45 The highest peak is finally reached. Oh hell, what a view! It's incredible! I can see the beaches, Rio, and Jesus. This is among the most powerful things I've experienced. Up here you can stay indefinitely. One cannot stop to take photographs. It feels like all the views from here are worth at least one photo.

15.14 Everything which is heard right now is crickets and a flute. I'm sitting by a stone table on the slope of Sugar Loaf Mountain. There are forests, trees around us. Peaceful, relaxing, such things that you´ll remember.

15.21 It is dense with bamboo around us. Large black birds with white wingtips are floating gracefully against the blue sky and something bites on my left leg.

Phase 2 of our cable car trip takes us to the highest peak (396 meters above sea level).

We are looking towards tomorrow's destination, Copacabana beach.

Peter enjoys the wonderful view of the Sugar Loaf Mountain.

15.39 After a few attempts, we finally managed to take some pictures of a few witty little monkeys which live in the woods here on the mountain. They resemble the monkeys we saw in a bird park in Cape Town on the day exactly a year ago.

15.49 We are sitting down at a café. Christer is eating a Cornetto ice cream and I drink coffee. The coffee is black, unsweetened. Who needs sugar here? at Sugarloaf! In order to buy something in the restaurant, you pay first, get a receipt and then get what you paid for.

16.31 We're finally down at sea level again. The waves roll in towards the beach. We have walked to the "red beach" Praia Vermelha. Between the tree tops is the Sugarloaf visible. Have I been up there today? Feelings are many, numerous as the grains on the beach. Well, maybe not that many. Now a woman passes me. She holds a green coconut with a straw in. Christer has gone off on a small photo walk. This is the best place for anxious tourists to visit in Rio de Janeiro. The military buildings behind us keep crime extremely low here.

We are taking a break in the bamboo forest.

One of the sagui monkeys found in the woods at Sugarloaf mountain.

Everything nice has to come to its end. It's time to travel down again.

16.46 We are at a bus stop again. Now we will soon begin our return journey to the hostel.

16.52 Bus number 107 stopped before the bus stop we were at. We and two others ran towards the bus and climbed aboard. The bus then stopped, of course at the stop we had just run from.

18.23 It's nice to take a shower after a day out. Now, we'll find somewhere to relax. It is crowded, sold out to the last place in the living room. Where do they all come from? Where do we find somewhere to sit? Perhaps there is some place in the lobby?

19.30 There is continuing sounds from the patio. Is it a party for everyone except us? Is it a private thing perhaps? Was there any information about it? Where do we eat our dinner? The questions are many. I hope we can answer some of them.

20.47 The dinner here at the Pizza & Grill Gambino is completed. We took the buffet option, and weighed our food in the normal Brazilian way. It was not cheap but the food was good. There are plenty of people here. Perhaps they are celebrating Father’s Day,

21.10 Again, we are at home. Here the party continues. Many faces are new, unknown to me.

Our simple room at Art Hostel Rio. Behind the Brazilian flag is illogical enough, a German guy sleeping.

21.29 Now we've moved down to the TV room. Here it is quiet and peaceful. There is a fridge with beer and a soft drink vending machine. Salvador Dali has painted one of the posters here.

21.50 There is volleyball shown on TV, Brazil vs Italy, women playing, 1-2, 18-21. How many points do you need for a set in volleyball?

21.53 You need 25 points. The Italian ladies won 3-1 in sets.

22.51 Tomorrow is roughly planned. The party people have gone home. Fireworks can be heard from outside. It is time to sleep. A new mysterious room neighbour has put his belongings in Christer´s bed and put his backpack in front of Christer´s locker. Christer has found new places for the things.

Monday 9th of August

08.40 All beds except mine are empty. The other two men are out and Christer is in the shower. The "bed thief" who is an elderly Brazilian Bible-reading man, was observed during night, by Christer, as he was lifting and lowering a leg. Was it a coincidence or deliberate?

09.49 A helicopter passes outside. Today we will see Rio de Janeiro's central and coastal areas.

10.03 We're back at the patio. We are making up our daily plans, memorizing street names and so on. It is good to know where to go. This would avoid looking at maps, in guidebooks out on the streets. If you do this you will sometimes attracts bums and beggars wanting to talk. Behind me there are a few American and Danish tourists. The women really love using the word "like" a lot.

We avoided the traffic by walking over the street literally.

Parque do Flamengo.

Praia do Flamengo with Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background.

10.39 We're out on the streets again. It is a week day. It's Monday. Our last week of vacation has started and it feels weird when you think that you are back at work in a week´s time. Behind me are Flamengo Beach (Praia do Flamengo), the sea and the Sugarloaf Mountain. Along the beach people are walking, biking and jogging. Along the way we met a man with his feet turned inwards so that the toes pointed towards each other. The wind blows ever so nice and the ocean feels inviting. But we have other plans.

10.56 We're on another metro station. There has been some of them through the years. This one is called Catete and is located just outside where we live. To use it you just buy a credit card sized plastic card. This card is inserted into a slot and you are inside the system. Just like in São Paulo, it is safe and effective to use the metro in Rio de Janeiro.

It´s finally time to try the metro.

11.17 The metro took us to the station Cinelândia and we got above ground, we immediately saw the beautiful Theatro Municipal. We are now among people, a lot of people, it´s crowded, and we´re walking along the main street, Avenida Rio Branco in the centre. On the way here a girl stumbled as we met. I stretched out an arm to catch her, but she regained balance and rose to her feet. I guess I'll be the hero of the day some other day.

11.26 Christer has looked for football jerseys from the local team Fluminense, as a souvenir of his own as well as a birthday gift for his nephew Anton. Unfortunately, the shirts cost a small fortune. We have also seen people from the "Green Party". One appeared as a big bloated man.

11.41 We are waiting for our turn to change money at Banco do Brasil. The exchange is apparently in a separate room and there are queues. There are apparently lots of people there so it takes time. Well what can we do? Money is needed of course. How long will the wait be? Recently we were looking at the city's futuristic cathedral, Catedral Metropolitana. It resembles a step pyramid, an inverted teacup, a cone. It was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, who is guilty of various strange houses in this country.

Theatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro.

Avenida Rio Branco, the main street in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

A big man from the Green Party.

12.11 We got tired of waiting and are now having lunch at restaurant Pitão de Pedro. We will be having a weighed buffet lunch. This is not a bad idea. Pick up what you want, check its weight, get a receipt and pay when you leave.

13.18 The lunch was eaten and paid for. Our wandering continued with a stop to exchange money at a travel agency. There was some waiting in a line but now we finally got rid of our US-dollars. Later we made a visit to a post office for sending of this trip´s last postcards.

Catedral Metropolitana do not look like a typical church.

Lots of taxi cars on Avenida Almirante Barroso.

Christer is sending his last postcards from this trip.

14.16 We left the post office and went down to visit the port and the Praça 15 de Novembro. It was a beautiful but hard-photographed church there. We have temporarily gone underground and are sitting on some chairs outside the Cafe Gourmet. It is time for coffee. We are at the metro station Carioca which is situated in the centre. Outside the small café there are some silver-coloured cows (not real) and it is a big sale on football jerseys.

14.51 It was a nice break and excellent coffee. We took the metro to the sand and beach. We're going to the district and the beach of Ipanema. There are lots of people on the train. Ipanema has until recently been outside of the metro system, but luckily they have recently inaugurated a metro station in Ipanema. That's where we are heading now.

We found a small café in the underground.

Silver cows at Carioca metro station.

15.23 Large birds are hovering overhead, behind me the waves are breaking towards Ipanema Beach. The sea is gray and does not look so inviting on this cloudy day. Unfortunately it seems to become more and more wind and there is a light rain in the air. Some brave souls are playing ball games on the beach and some are out jogging. Ipanema is one of Rio de Janeiro's upmarket neighbourhoods and the pace is quiet and the standard high.

15.57 We want to see more before darkness falls so we jumped on the metro leading to Copacabana. Yes, it goes even further, though not for us right now.

16.29 We walked through the district of Copacabana and are now on Copacabana beach. There is no bikini babes there. However, there is a male drummer without front teeth in the upper jaw. Next we will have a beer and who knows maybe even a small dip in the sea.

You can buy coconuts here on Ipanema beach.

The famous beach in Ipanema is experiencing bad weather this afternoon.

17.06 The beer was cold and the ocean waves fanned my feet. Not much of a Copacabana swim, but still.... The drum playing man was drumming by our table and got some money from us but he looked displeased. It feels a bit disappointing to have visited the Copacabana and just met a grumpy old toothless man. we have totally different images to associate with this place. It's still fun to be here though.

17.20 It's time to go home. It is amazing how everything have worked smoothly today.

17.50 We were far from alone on the metro. I barely got out of the crowded train at Catete station. That's right, I did but Christer carries on with the metro. He failed to get out in time. I'll wait here for him. He will probably be back soon.

18.21 What the hell is this? I haven’t seen Christer return. Or has he and I missed it? Now I get above ground and head for the hostel.

Copacabana beach wasn´t very inviting this afternoon.

Christer is enjoying a good beer at one of the many beach kiosks in Copacabana.

18.42 To wait where I did wasn't that clever. Christer had returned and got out of the train farther away from me and went up and waited for me above ground. He sent text message after text message in vain, I had turned off my mobile. Now we are reunited at the accommodation. From now on we will keep SMS contact in case of trouble, separation.

19.28 We are sitting down to relax for a while before we go out. Christer is in a rocking chair and I am in a spinning chair. As I turned around a fire extinguisher fell down and hit one of Christer´s toes. It barely missed my toes. Why was I so happy that everything went so smoothly two hours ago?

20.03 It's time for dinner at Catete Grill. A little more expensive, a little better than the last two dinners.

21.06 It was really tasty meat. We were a bit amused when we saw that two Danish girls from the hostel added a lot of food from the buffet table and then looked surprised as they had to pay based on the weight of the food. Now we are on the terrace and are reading about the last destination on this trip but not the last stop on the trip. Here on the terrace there are four adults sitting at a table behind me. Between me and the gang of four is a small child. The baby is devoted to a children's program on a laptop. Wait, now the child got bored of the program. It took a teddy bear and laid down to rest and watch.

22.09 We've surfed a bit on the internet and have relaxed. Now it's about time to say good night.

23.16 We were not that tired so we had an evening beer each on the terrace. Now it's sleeping time.

Tuesday 10th of August

08.50 I'm fed up, fed up with simple beds in simple rooms, tired of showers without substantial heat, tired of washing my clothes in the sink and not getting the clothes clean enough.

10.09 Tired or not, now the backpacks are packed again. It is almost time for the last taxi ride for this trip. Now let's check at the front desk what a taxi ride should cost us and also ask the taxi driver about the rate before departing.

10.22 We checked about the price. It was said to be around 25 reals. We walked the few meters to the taxis at the metro station. At the first taxi there was a young lady with a long ponytail. She wasn't about to drive. Christer´s backpack was loaded in and Christer sat down in the back. I handed over my backpack and would just about to enter the taxi as it suddenly rolled a bit. It stopped and I stepped inside. We took off and have just driven through a long tunnel. We take a different route this time. There was no tunnelling involved in the taxi ride on Saturday.

10.39 The taxi driver didn’t want to have 25 real at all. He was happy to settle with only 16 real. Now we are back at the bus station Novo Rio, back where we sat last time we were here. Here, a pneumatic drill runs and it is noisy.

We are back at Novo Rio, the big bus station in Rio de Janeiro.

11.15 It's time for a morning break. We are at Café Viajantes. Christer is drinking a Fanta and I drink coffee. On a two-part ladder with his head up through a hatch in the ceiling we can see a man. Something pours down past him.

11.34 Hell and more! Whatever was running down from the ceiling has leaked into our backpacks. They have become wet at the bottom.

12.00 We’ve sat down inside the bus. Today's bus company is Costa Verde (http://www.costaverdetransportes.com.br). Where we would sit in the bus we found an English speaking guy. He had confused the seat number with ... well what do I know? He moved to his place. The seat was occupied by a lady in the company of a gentleman next to her. The guy decided to switch places again. Music can be heard from the speakers. Oops, now a broad-brimmed hat fell down on my lap. The music is, Eric Clapton "Tears in Heaven," Marvin Gaye "Sexual Healing" and now Soul Asylum "Runaway Train". Bye Sugarloaf Mountain, beaches and Jesus. Bye Rio! Let's go on.

12.36 "Still Loving You" with the now and then present Scorpions fades out. Our journey continues. We drive past trees, houses and anything else you pass during a bus trip here. Imagine, there are just a few bus trips left on this trip.

13.21 The music continues. The motor hums but the bus is stationary. There is a break. How long will our break be? I don’t know. Where are we located? We are at a place owned by today´s bus company, Costa Verde.

Beautiful views near Angra dos Reis.

13.58 Green hills are sloping into the sea. There are cloudcrowned mountains and a winding road. This is exactly what I look at right now.

16.00 It is mist and fog outside. Advertising for Paraty is visible. It's a bumpy road ahead.

16.25 We are in a room with double bed. Didn’t we book two separate beds? We are at the Backpacker's House here in Paraty, a cosy colonial coastal town halfway between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. We are staying at neither a hotel nor a hostel, rather upstairs at the home of a Spanish-speaking family. The place is located about 50 metres from the bus station but still it was not easily found despite good directions. The entrance was a discrete wooden door in a wall. On the walls of our room there are lithographs by Salvador Dali. The surrealist theme continues. The guy who showed us the room was wondering if we booked it today. Then he realised, it's the 10th today. Now, Christer checked our reservation. We have for some reason booked a double room. Maybe there wasn't something else available?

This interesting map of Paraty was on the wall outside of our room.

The tiny bus station in Paraty.

We are staying here! Our window upstairs is open. Below us we have a small restaurant.

17.27 We hear a barking dog, a motorbike passes us and now a Volkswagen bus. Further along we can see a group of old people. We are out there, getting to know our new hometown. It is quite different from Rio de Janeiro in size and character. Well, not entirely unlike, however. Both are located by the sea.

17.44 There were puddles on many streets in the old cobblestone part of town. It is unclear whether this is due to rain or high water in the ocean. The stones in the streets are huge and it was not entirely easy to walk around here.

Christer walks on the uneven ground surface in Paraty.

Water-filled streets in Paraty's oldest neighbourhood.

Christer found a piece of the Atlantic ocean.

18.05 It is a brown, rectangular table top between us and leather-covered sofas under us. We are at the Italian restaurant Benedetta. I have ordered the Rump roast with strips and grilled vegetables. Christer has ordered Spaghetti Carbonara. We are drinking juice with no sugar, yes we actually were offered sweetened juice, but we declined.

19.03 It was a great dinner. Now we are at home to make us free of our debts.

20.36 We went out again after we had paid our debt. We did some supermarket shopping and surfed the web. It seems like it´s raining home in Sweden.

21.43 Just imagine what you might think about. We are thinking right now what our hotel in Hanoi, the summer of 2008, was called. I am about to wash the clothes of today. Christer just remembered the name, it was Bodega Hotel! Tomorrow we will see more of Paraty.

Wednesday 11th of August

08.30 You can not always rely on the cellphone alarm. Christer´s mobile phone which had the wake-up icon in front when it was turned off last night has not called. No harm done there isn't any bus to catch today. Unfortunately, it is overcast and we had plans to visit a beach. We'll see what happens later today.

09.18 We have finished a delicious breakfast together with the family in the house. We got tasty bread, fresh fruit, pineapple juice and hot coffee, perfect! Around us there was a woman, two men (brothers?) and a happy little kid. We are full and content. It is a pity that it is so cloudy but life is not just sunshine and fluffy clouds.

We are looking out through our window, waiting for better weather and looking at interesting vehicles.

10.23 We have started to wander around in the old part of town. Here you find low, whitewashed houses with stone-paved streets between them. It´s tricky and sometimes slippery. The town is a place for artists and people who want to find a retreat from the stress of modern life. It is easy to understand. Paraty was totally isolated for a long time and it was not until the 1970´s that it was really good roads going here. Throughout history, the city has been important as a port and famous for its rum.

10.44 "Obisk Veaze" is written on a rusty cannon on a stone foundation. In front of me the sea should spread out. However, it has pulled away. It is low tide. It smells really bad, as usual when it is low tide and the muddy sea floor is exposed.

Not the best town to ride a bike in.

Paraty harbour, but where is the water?

Birdlife in Paraty.

10.56 Down by the harbour, we met as usual, a bunch of dogs. A black female was having difficulties to decide which tourist group she would hang on to. A bunch of dogs have been gathered on the beach to play or fight. It is hard to tell which. They are in all cases a very noisy.

11.27 Now, we have balanced and slipped around on the cobbled streets for a while. In addition, we have been out on a small peninsula, cape and turned. There are plenty of large birds of for us unknown species. A white horse that we saw yesterday still stands and eats in the same place. Recently we received a pocket-size menu from the restaurant Santa Rita. They also enticed with free caipirinha drinks after the meal. We'll see what we do. It is not lunchtime yet.

Dogs gather to play or fight. Who knows which?

The shy Atlantic ocean didn´t want to meet us. The water is hiding.

Footprints, a memory of our visit.

A white horse at its favourite spot by the sea.

11.55 Someone is drumming firmly to the left of me and I also hear a little bell or something like that. Among other things I can hear the theme song for "The Flintstones".

12.32 The drumming came from the school Cembra which we just left behind us. Now we are sitting on a bench by the River Perequé Acu. It flows gently through the town and looks most like a canal. Here you hear a cock crow, and we've just seen a fish jump. On the ground a bunch of red ants are working hard. They carry parts and a platoon of ants trying to move a sticked chewing gum.

13.08 It has become time for lunch at Koma Kilo Paraty 1999 Restaurante in the city's newer part. It is weight buffet again. We are sitting on their terrace which has a fence around it. Christer has just said hello to a dog on the street at the other side of the fence.

Typical street in the pedestrian historical center of Paraty.

Flowers, artists and even the occasional hummingbird. It is quiet and idyllic in this town.

Peter is having lunch at Komakilo Paraty 99 Restaurante.

Someone wants to eat with us.

13.12 Somehow, the dog came in through the fence and to our table and now looks at us with an appealing look. Why do they always come to us?

14.23 It was good food and I think the dog was happy with it. Another dog was standing outside the fence and wanted to get in as well. Now we are at home in the room ready to go to a beach. We'll see if we can find some beaches.

14.50 It is a pathless forest between us and the beach we plan to visit. We haven’t found any road there either. According to our guidebook it should be able to go there. How? Walking on water? Now we are in all cases on a bench and thinking. Christer just took a picture of a boat riding bird. Inside a small beach restaurant there is a singing man.

Perequé Acu, a river that turns into a canal and then reaches the sea in Paraty.

Stubborn ants fight with a chewing gum.

15.10 A man and a woman (tourists) passed us and disappeared into the trackless forest. Was there a path there somewhere? We went and checked. And yes, there was a path. It soon ended by some rocks by the sea. Around me is just rainforest. Now Christer has just made it back from a last check, we will return to bench. The couple we saw has also turned back.

15.31 We followed a road up a hill and found a new path. It took us up to the fortress of Forte Defensor Perpetuo. Along the way we attempted to take a picture with Christer´s self-timer camera. It was not a good one. Just as the photo was being taken Christer stepped on my foot and fell forward. Despite a new attempt no good picture was taken.

15.45 A new photo of us two has been more successful, however, elsewhere. Now, we have put out our towels on a sloping rock by the sea. The waves are rolling in a few feet down from us.

This jungle trail became too difficult.

Paraty

16.04 In the water a little turtle just popped up. It disappeared, however before we had time to take pictures of it. In the woods up at the fort, we have also seen a relatively large animal scamper off into the woods. Given the range of motion, it must have been some sort of rabbit or a large toad. We looked for it but did not see it again.

16.22 Here I sit looking out over the ocean while we talk. Then suddenly I feel something wet on my right knee. Beside me there is a happy dog that just licked on my lap. The friendly lick made me jump. The dog then went to some bird droppings which it happily licked. I hope it hadn’t done anything similar before it came to me.

Ocean view from the Morro do Forte, Paraty.

Two tourists enjoying life. Later on we saw a sea turtle swimming around in the water here.

16.59 We walked back into Paraty trown. I stand again by the cannon I saw this morning. Now the water is just next to it.

18.25 We walked slowly towards home and here we have been for a while. We´ve been drinking the soft drink Skinka, both red and green. Now we're going out for internet surfing and grocery store visits.

19.28 There have been a last shopping spree at the supermarket; something for this evening, something for the bus trip and also things to take home. Christer bought several packs of Brazilian coffee and we both bought local spirits of the kind to do real-caipirinha cocktails on.

19.58 Now we entered the restaurant Santa Rita, the place which offered us the menu and that enticed with free caipirinha earlier today. It is located at Rua Matriz. We have just ordered the mixed grilled meat. We will be drinking beer, a Brahma. After that we will order a caipirinha each.

20.44 Plates and dishes are being brought out to everyone but us. Wait, here comes the food. Once again things happen just as I started writing.

Evening in Paraty.

21.29 It was not a big meal but it was good. We are about to pack our things, it might probably be the final packing. Now the fragile items that we will bring home must be placed in a safe position in the backpacks. What about the caipirinha? No, it wasn't offered anymore so we wait. It was, unfortunately, probably just a lunch offer.

22.02 Everything (?) is packed. Will the fragile things stay in one peace? Will it make the journey across the Atlantic and North Sea? We'll see when we get home. Now a bang was heard from outside. What happened? First we heard an engine sound and then a bang.

22.05 It was a motorcycle which overturned. It possibly ran into someone/something. Everyone seems to have survived it without any serious damage. There are however some plastic parts on the street.
