Saturday 14th of July

07.55 I am at this very moment sitting on a light brown couch with a green cushioning. On my left the air condition is working at full power. Outside of the green closed drapes is the world, a world with sun, cars and a rooster crowing. All this takes place at Beach Inn in Grand Anse, Grenada.

Our lovely view of Grand Anse beach.

Peter is waiting for breakfast at Beach Inn.

10.03 We’ve just enjoyed breakfast out on the big porch, a breakfast with coffee, toast, marmalade, butter and cheese. Now we are planning to visit yet another capital. Next in line is Saint George’s. What will it have to offer? Will it also lack benches? What can we find there that interest us? These are just some of the questions we hope to find an answer to.

10.55 On earlier destinations we have left a piece of our hearts. All that I have left here so far are pieces of my skin.

11.12 We’ve boarded yet another minibus. We are on our way to yet another capital. Two seats in front of me there is a man with dreads and a knitted cap. To my left I can see the sea and different kinds of boats.

Saint George´s

The presbyterian church in Saint George´s, a ruin after hurricane Ivan.

Lots of churches with their roofs missing in Saint George´s.

The carenage, Saint George´s.

11.49 We’ve just bought postcards and rum here in Saint George’s. After this shopping we’ve walked up to Fort George, a fort at the top of the town. On our way up here we passed Saint Andrews Presbyterian church which lost its roof as Ivan paid the town a visit on the 7th of September 2004. Ivan was a hurricane. We have an amazing view over the town. The concrete I am sitting on is warm and I feel some heat in that area where by back change its name. As we take a closer look we can see that both the Catholic and Anglican Church lack a roof.

12.26 Before we left the fort we stopped at the place where the former Prime Minister Maurice Bishop was executed 1983. Those shots were the starting signal for the American invasion later that year. You can argue if it was discomposure over Bishops death or the new Cuban counsellors that caused this. Now we will withdraw some money.

Maurice Bishop was killed here on the 19th of october 1983.

13.15 We got our money from an ATM. Now we have walked down town and to the beachwalk Carenage. Here we’ve sat down at Carenage Café. Earlier we’ve been to the supermarket Food Fair and bought something to drink. I have also bought a new journal just in case I should finish this.

14.12 I am sitting in a revolving chair writing this. Christer is sitting in the green couch changing the batteries in his camera. It feels great to be in the shade. Our beverages are placed in the fridge and everything feels great. We’ve returned home. We just looked at our neighbours. They are small and it is wet in their room. They are two turtles

Our nextdoor neigbours at Beach Inn.

17.57 We’ve gone out hunting. We are hunting for food, at least a place that can serve us food. Our search has taken us to the beach below our home. The sun is setting and a small white dog is barking trying to look angry. We still haven’t found what we are looking for.

18.33 We’ve left the beach where two dogs were making more dogs. On the beach we also saw black people who had covered their faces in sand and a little guy who made a sand angel. We’ve reached the Spiceland Mall, a mall, with many straight over the dish places. We will choose one of them. We are right now having a classic bench break.

19.22 We decided for dinner at Chopstix. We've been served medium portions of Chinese food. Now we will look for more beverages. They have great pavements here.

Grand Anse beach, Grenada.

20.14 We bought more sodas at Real Value Supermarket. It is a supermarket in the IGA concern. It belongs to the same chain of stores as our supermarket in Antigua. Now the sodas have been placed in the fridge and Christer is in the shower. I will soon get there as well. In the shower that is.

21.59 We are listening to Christer´s travel radio and hear transmissions from several different countries. We just heard a gentleman announcing in proper Queen' s English that North Korea just shut down a nuclear reactor.

Sunday 15th of July

09.16 It is great with a sleep in. Today will be a slow day without rush and panic. Most things feel clear but you never know.

10.09 I went out on the porch and met our host. After some chatting I asked him if it was possible to get a cup of coffee. Sure, he said and went inside. After some time and clattering he returned with a tray with a cup, a spoon, sugar, milk and a pot of coffee. I went for the rest of my breakfast and really enJOYed it.

11.22 I have just lubricated my body and Christer has done the same, with his. Now we will head down to the beach here in Grand Anse, this time for tanning and swimming. We are after all near the island´s best beach.

A sunday walk along the beach.

Our blue home can be seen here.

Peter can´t escape from writing in the journal, not even on the beach.

12.44 The waves are clucking. A man just walked by and offered some mango. A house drove by up on the road. It was pulled by a car. Next my time has come for a soothing bath in the big blue. Maybe I will get a glimpse of the marine wild life.

13.35 I got the chance to see some small fish. As I was looking at them something made a splash just next to me. Was it a bigger and more curious fish? As I was swimming around a family passed on the beach with a lobster and some kind of harpoon. Now we have returned to the room to get rid of the salt. Christer is done so here I go. Tanning makes you thirsty.

17.06 We have left the room and we´re sitting down on a stone. We are on our way to have dinner not far from where we dined yesterday, the Spiceland Mall. In front of us are some guys playing soccer, one team in white jerseys and one in blue. Around us small crabs are running down into their holes.

Football (soccer) in the lower divisions.

Lots of these crabs and even more holes.

17.42 We had dinner at KFC, Kentucky Fried Chicken, loads of chicken for sure. It wasn't the most culinary but we sure aren’t hungry. It is after all Sunday and most places are closed.

18.38 We walked home along the beach and saw more dogs being made. We also managed to catch the sun on pictures before it sank in the sea.

21.31 I have been out on the porch searching for soothing winds. There wasn't much wind at all. After that I went out on the net on the computer outside of our room. Now I will fill up with fluids.

22.44 As the radio offers music from Venezuela we are preparing to sleep. We’ve just found out that we´ve got new room mates. Some ants have moved in into our bathroom.

Sunset on Grenada.

Monday 16th of July

09.25 It is so far cool and dusky around us. I guess this will be changed soon. We will soon pull the drapes aside. On today's agenda are visits to the beach, the post office and some suitable souvenir shop. Next up is breakfast though. I think I am having some hearing problems. Christer just said;” It is the sixteenth of July today” and I thought that he said "it is cloudy today". It can’t be cloudy can it?

10.19 It actually was cloudy and rained. But now the sun is back shining. We have made up a classic list about what must be done today. First on the list and next in line is a beach visit.

11.01 We went outside the house just to realise it had started to rain again. Now we are under a metal roof. We are at a Texaco station opposite to our home.

11.53 We´ve had time for both a swim and a shower, swimming in the sea and a shower from the rain. The beach is being patrolled by 5-6 dogs. One of them is the female we´ve seen in the evenings. A white brown dog has blood on its neck. Is it his blood or? This gang seems to rule over the beach. Another dog, a dobermann, is looking for protection next to me as the gang is walking by.

The gang.

The bad boys of Grand Anse is making a short stop in front of the "No dogs"- sign.

12.13 As we headed for home the dog pack followed us. Every time we stopped so did they. They hesitated for a while by the no dogs allowed sign but soon the hard core of the gang walked the stairs up towards the main road. As we turned left to get home they strolled across the road for new adventures. For us it is once more time for a visit to the capital.

Another visit to Saint George´s.

Christer is thinking.

14.15 We are sitting by Saint George’s carenage again. We have bought some gifts for the ones back home. Now we are on our way to the post office to leave some postcards. I must admit that I am a little hungry.

14.39 Another mission is accomplished. The next one is prepared for. We’ve been to the post office with our postcards and now just sat down at Carenage Café again. Here we will have sandwiches and something to drink.

16.33 We went on a hunt for an internet café. After we had walked up and down some steep hills we found one. Up and down some more hills took us to our resting place by the carenage. Now we will just catch our breaths before we head for a place to eat.

The mother of all steep hills.

16.54 We are on another minibus. We just met a man who claimed that he could tell that we were from Sweden and were on our way to Trinidad. He was right. He pointed to his head and smiled a toothless smile while he lisped "I can predict things!"

17.13 Our minibus made a few stops. At one of the stops a lady handed over a cellphone to the driver and his conductor loaded up 5-6 grocery bags. The cellphone was returned and we carried on without the lady. As we got off the bags remained in the bus. We assume that the lady´s husband would unload them somewhere else. We are back at Spiceland Mall. Here we will get us some food and later buy something for breakfast. In the minibus on the way here we heard a familiar song that we listened to on Saint Vincent. The song is called "Party animal". We have no idea who the singer/group is.

18.40 We have done the things we had planned to do. We went back to Chopstix. Now we will refill on fluids. After that we will take an evening swim.

20.01 We’ve returned from the beach. It was soothing but the salty water twinges. On his way up from the sea Christer got stung by something in the water. His hand was swelling up a bit and it looks like something has stung him. It all took place as he moved his hand across the surface of the water in the dark.

Tuesday 17th of July

09.01 Once again we have reached the last morning. Today we will head further south. This afternoon we will take off to Trinidad. It is with mixed emotions that we are leaving. We’ve had a great time here on Grenada and much has been done. I can’t stop thinking about all we haven’t done on the other islands and in the other countries. I guess the best thing to do is to travel on.

10.44 Christer has checked an e-mail from our next host on Trinidad. The message was kind of cryptic. Either he isn´t waiting for us and we should call him as we get there or we should call him just in case he isn’t there but he will most likely be there.

Peter is waiting to leave Grenada.

11.48 Our bags are filled and we are ready to check out, get a taxi and go to the airport. Outside the rain is hanging in the air. I am happy that we are not walking to the airport.

12.23 We have reached an airport again and the time has come for yet another check in. We are at Point Salines International Airport. We are on our way to a new country with a new currency. The Eastern Caribbean dollar we´ve used since Martinique is no longer valid.

Point Salines Airport

14.11 After we had checked in and been checked we decided to get us some lunch in the bar beyond the security check. Now all that remains is to board another plane. The airport feels quite new. Evidence to this is the fact that they are still painting it. Maybe it is going through some makeover after the hurricane?

14.57 According to our boarding cards the plane will take off in three minutes. I sincerely hope it won’t. We haven’t boarded it yet. There seem to be some form of delay. Everything is OK as long as we don’t hear anything. On the other hand we haven’t heard anything since we got here. Hey something is coming out of the loud speakers....just sound...

15.27 We are on Caribbean Star+s flight DHC-8-300. Most passengers have been seated and soon we will take off towards the cloudy sky. The airlines LIAT and Caribbean Star just merged and run side by side these days.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

16.39 We are on Piarco International Airport on Trinidad, the largest island on our trip. Next awaits a ride to our future home Sadila House. Do we have to call for it or? Inside the airport they offered free tasting of whiskey for the departing passengers.

16.47 We were let into the airport again by a smiling guy who arranged with taxis. We walked past him and phoned from the tourist office to our host. All that Christer heard was “five minutes”. We assume it is the waiting time.

17.00 We are on our way. As we waited for the ride we spoke with a taxi driver. He was far from pleased with smoking and smokers. He couldn´t see the point in destroying the health. We can only agree.

17.17 Our host let us in to room number 3 and he also gave us some quick information about what is offered around and on our home. Our home is called Sadila House and is on Waterpipe Road in Arouca. We are not that far from the airport in the northern parts of Trinidad´s interior. Our host and hostess are like so many others here of Indian descent. Their names are Chatram & Savitri Bhola. More information can be found at http://www.sadilahouse.com/

Our breakfast room at Sadila House.

Big but cheap box with Chinese food.

19.16 As hunger was trying to tare our bodies apart we decided to get us something to eat. We ordered one large dish each at the Chinese restaurant Foodtime, Mister Bhola had informed us about this place. Large was perfect name for the dish! We are not that kind to our bodies. We give them proper food once a day and in portions the size of truck load. Beside the size it also was a great prize, around $ 15 for both of us.

19.47 We went shopping at LB’s Supermarket. As we got here we knew very little about the neighbourhood. Slowly our knowledge has grown. The little white dot in the darkness is getting bigger

22.32 The local weather forecast spoke about rain and winds that will hit the island during night. This might lead to flooded streets. We hope there will be no problems tomorrow.
