Thursday 25th of April

08.38 It seems to be chilly in the city outside, Pamplona. We have for the second time woken up at Albergue Plaza Catedral (http://www.albergueplazacatedral.com). We are about to have breakfast before everything is going to be packed and we're going to check out. It feels sad that we mostly have rainy memories from this city.

09.53 It's time to check out and pass the time until the bus departs. Our longing for a sleep in morning made us buy tickets for the latter bus today. Right now, it feels most unnecessary. We have almost three hours before we move on.

10.22 It turned out that we went back to the Taberna cafe where we were last evening. There are other cafés but this offers both good coffee and plenty of space.

10.48 We went out the back door from the cafe and are seated on a bench in a backyard. Things are not going as planned. The restaurant where we intend to have lunch opens after we have already boarded the bus. Think again. The sun is fighting with the clouds and has actually peaked out a few times. It's usually the case when it's time to travel from a place.

10.57 A church bell tolls. Is it that one or my watch that show the correct time? Hooray, now the sun is back again. A man is raking the gravel here. I guess we're not much wiser when it comes to the lunch plans.

It´s time to leave the room at Plaza Catedral.

We are now sitting at the backside of Taberna.

Art in your everyday Pamplona life..

Peter and Roberth are walking towards Portal Nuevo.

Iglesia de San Lorenzo, Pamplona.

Bus station lunch today.

11.45 We couldn't remain seated on our bench much longer so we are again in motion. The next destination will probably be the bus station. We came to the conclusion that it is probably wisest to eat lunch there so that there will be no unnecessary stress.

12.08 Estación de Autobuses is around us again. Here we have found a simple restaurant, Bar-Restaurante Autobuses. We have just ordered a today's dish each. It is good to have food in our stomachs when we are travelling.

12.53 A bus from the company La Burundesa (http://laburundesa.com) will take us to the fourth resort on the trip, Vitoria. Roberth has the misfortune of having a little seat-kicking child behind him. The kicking child, a boy of Arabic origin, has some kind of damage to one eye and looks a bit eerie. Roberth has named him "Ghost Child".

13.29 We are on our way to the administrative capital of the Basque Country. Vitoria (or Gasteiz in Basque) is actually the main town although Bilbao and San Sebastián are far more famous. 79 small kilometres remain before we can get out of this bus. Mountains turn to the right.

14.03 Our bus is traveling on the E5, haven't we traveled on it before? Now it is under forty kilometres left. The bus picks up passengers here and there in small places along the way so the journey takes time.

14.57 After arriving in and carrying out some errands inside the bus station in Vitoria, we are now having a bench break in the sun outside it. We have left Navarra behind and are now in the province of Álava. This will be the last stop before we return to Bilbao for the trip home on Saturday.

We are sitting down in the sun outside the bus station in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Catedral de María Inmaculada de Vitoria is the newest cathedral in the city.

Florida Park, Vitoria.

Roberth is hiding from the rain.

Virgen Blanca Plaza.

15.25 Now we have started walking along an elongated street, Avenida Gasteiz. New bearing is now taken out. From now on, we'll keep our eyes open for Marvelous. It's a bar that's supposed to be at the crossroads where we're going to turn into a new street. Along the way here we saw a bus from the company Supr@bus. It feels familiar. Didn't we go with that company on the trip in Morocco? Clouds are gathering above us. Soon the rain will come.

15.56 I do not know whether it was the rain that drove us in or whether it was the thirst for coffee that attracted us at Restaurante El Parlamento. There is no panic to check into our hotel yet. You do that at 17.30. If you want an espresso, it's easiest to order a solo. There is one thing that I learned at this restaurant visit.

16.27 Roberth has tested various small dishes, pintxos, here in the restaurant. Even if it's nice here, we have to move on. Who knows, maybe we'll come back?

16.34 Women and children pass us where we sit on a bench in the Park Florida Parkea. Unfortunately, there is still rain in the air. Behind a fence nearby is the Basque parliament. In another direction is the Catedral de María Inmaculada de Vitoria. It is the newer of the city's two cathedrals.

16.51 In the park, in addition to trees, gazebos and artificial caves, there are also some white statues of, among others, Theudio and Sigerico. They could possibly be royalty from past times.

17.10 The trio has now moved to Plaza de la Virgen Blanca square. The sun is shining again on us. There are twenty minutes left until the check-in begins. You can check in earlier but then without staff using a machine. We prefer human contact. Do we stay here until check-in or do we see more before that? A Basque party, EAJ PNB, offers fliers and balloons. On Sunday, there are elections to parliament in Spain, actually the third since 2015. From speakers you will hear the same political chant over and over again in both Spanish and Basque.

17.50 Hotel Centro Vitoria (https://www.hotelcentrovitoria.com) and room 209 is our latest Spanish home. There are three beds, two washbasins and a bathtub here. Let's take it easy for a while.

The name of the city with grass letters.

We have moved into our room at Hotel Centro Vitoria.

Unhappy workers at Mercedes Benz.

Beautiful wall art in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Escalators for those unhappy walking uphill.

El Caminante.

18.27 We make some updates to the facts and concerns of the past. We didn't go with Supr@bus but with Supr@tours in Morocco. Theudio and Sigerico were Visigothic king. The Visigoths ruled the Iberian Peninsula from the 4th century until the 8th century.

19.19 We will soon fly home. Before that, there is little left to do on this trip. Next thing we know, we're going to get a little bit to life.

19.33 During our city hiking we have seen another party, PP (Partido Popular), which offers balloons. They are ideologically matched by the Christian Democrats here in Sweden. During the walk we first thought we could make coffee for later dinner but the time goes by and the coffee we'll probably have to iron.

20.23 Rio de Oro (http://riodeorovitoria.com) is a Chinese restaurant. Here we are going to have our dinners tonight. There will be some variety in the range of diet. Before we got here, Roberth looked into the Basque restaurant Xixilu. There, however, it was crowded.

20.46 The best thing about Chinese restaurants is that it is very cheap and the food comes quickly. This also applies tonight. However, the dishes come in a little odd order.

21.10 The committed waiter (possibly the owner) has taken a selfie on himself and us. If we're to tell the truth, it was Roberth who asked him to do it.

22.01 Good service, nice staff and great food. That's what we experienced at Rio de Oro. On the way home, we bought some beverages and snacks in a store. It was also manned by a Chinese.

23.01 News reaches us from home. The clothing chain JC has gone bankrupt and the pilots at SAS are threatening strike. Ourselves we will soon sleep.

Friday 26th of April

08.23 It has happened. I have taken a refreshing dip in the room's bathtub here at Hotel Centro Vitoria. Am I now ready for the day?

09.03 News reaches us from outside the world. The SAS pilots in Sweden, Norway and Denmark are on strike. Mozambique is threatened by Kenneth, who is a cyclone.

10.10 Juice, coffee and ham sandwich for 3.50 euro is a good breakfast at Aitxuri. It is a small and quiet room where besides breakfast can listen jazz. Aitxuri is just a few metres from the entrance to our hotel. Both are accessed through a passage indoors.

10.38 We are from the end station Angulema now heading in a tram towards the bus station. It's +15 C out there. The green trams are owned by Euskotren, the same company that took us from Bilbao to San Sebastián.

11.24 El Boulevard (https://www.el-boulevard.com) is the shopping mall where things happen. At the Charlotte café, I ordered an Americano. The girl at the counter, Mary, looked mostly surprised. I tried to say coffee. Ah, Solo or Americano? said Mary. I confirmed Americano and got a cup of each. In the past, I may have been unclear on orders and caused misunderstandings but now I was very clear. And yet it got wrong. The risk of error also increases when the staff is more focused on their mobile than the customers.

12.17 The shopping mall gets to do without us from now on. Instead, we have walked a bit and parked ourselves in a park, Parque de Molinuevo. Children play in the park; shouldn't they be at school at this hour?

Today we will use public transport.

Inside the tram.

El Boulevard Merkatal Gunea.

Some well known stores at El Boulevard.

Santa Maria Cathedral in Vitoria.

12.41 A company of some seemingly odd individuals has walked past us a bit away. Perhaps it is a sign that we too should move. Everyone in the group seems to be in need of some kind of guidance to be able to locate themselves in life.

12.51 We are suddenly once again in the older parts of Vitoria. Roberth and I are now benched at Santa Maria Plaza in front of the restaurant Querida Maria. Now a car from Google passed us. In front of us is the mighty Cathedral of Santa Maria, the elder of the city's cathedrals. The society of the odd individuals has sat down in front of the cathedral for a food break.

13.03 A further walk has taken us past a beautiful mural, El Triunfo de Vitoria, a "Wall of Fame" with autographs and hand prints on clay boards as well as the San Vicente church. Some storks have settled at the top of the church tower. We sometimes hear clapping sounds from the storks.

13.19 We're going with an escalator. It's nothing unusual. However, the escalator is glass covered and outdoors. It's a great idea to have escalators outdoors for the pedestrians who are going to walk on the steepest streets of the city.

13.38 We have made a shorter stop at home in the hotel room. It is mostly done to await a break in the rain that started to fall and await the opening of possible lunch restaurants.

14.05 Enough with the waiting. The rain has calmed down and we are hungry. The question is where can we find a tasty lunch?

14.33 We wandered around a little aimlessly and turned back at the railway station before we saw two police motorcycles outside the Basque restaurant Xixilu. It seemed exciting and we went in to order our lunch. This is the restaurant we turned to yesterday because it was crowded then.

Christer uses an escalator.

The post building in Vitoria Gasteiz.

Today´s lunch will be at Restaurante "Xixilu".

14.50 Three dishes came in. I got one other than what I ordered so now I have to wait a little more. The problem may lie in that I ordered from the English menu. The waiter may have memorized the location of the dish in the menu and then looked at the wrong page in the Spanish. Instead of squid prepared in its own ink, it became scrambled eggs with cod. It's not a useful food for a fish allergist.

15.28 This was really worth waiting for. It became among the most delicious squid dish I ate. After that, getting coffee made it perfect.

15.51 We are on a ledge above the Square Virgen Blanca Plaza. A bit away is the statue over/of Celedón. He is the very symbol of all the festivities of the city. We feel quite festive or is it the wine that speaks? Enough about this, against more wine, festivities and/or adventures.

16.41 After a visit to the food shop Carrefour, we are back home again. Roberth who went back in advance is relaxing in the tub.

16.53 On this day in 1937, the Spanish city of Guernica was bombed by Nazi bombing during the Spanish Civil War. On this day in 1986, the Chernobyl disaster occurred. Unit 4, on the outskirts of the city of Prypjat was destroyed by an explosion. As a result, a cloud of radioactive particles spread with the winds across Europe. We hope the day can become famous for something nice too.

17.43 Now we have a minor gourmet moment in the room. It is wine, juice, ham and cream cheese that apply.

19.19 Once again we have left the room behind us. Once again we are at the El Corte Inglés department store in a Spanish city. We have ordered coffee and something for this in the restaurant on the top level of the department store.

20.25 Christer and I bought something for our bar cabinets, we are now checking out about the last Spanish dinner. Christer has been in search of the exquisite liqueur Patxaran Barañano which he bought in Andorra in 2006. It is produced in Amurrio, a village between Vitoria and Bilbao. Exactly the same bottle has not been found but a Patxaran from the same locality will have to do.

21.11 Christer's attempt to check in on tomorrow's flight with Lufthansa came to naught. All the text suddenly became in Russian. However, Roberth had an English version so everything went well in the end.

21.35 Let's see if I'm luckier with this order. It's been like that until now. We are at the restaurant Casa Vieja (http://www.restaurantecasavieja.es) for one last dinner here in Vitoria. We walked along Aiztogile Street on the way here and saw a lot of people enjoying. They partied in bars or out on the street. Miscellaneous pets were also allowed but the highlight was still a beyond drunk man dressed as Kermit from The Muppet show.

22.10 There was no problem getting what I ordered. We again eat delicious meat.

23.12 It became a good and above all fun last evening. Our waitress was a happy lady. She gave Roberth lessons in Spanish and even a little Basque. We were also told from her that there is almost never good weather here in Vitoria. It has in any case been correct during our stay here when it rained a lot. Let's pack up most of the stuff that's going home tomorrow.

23.53 Soon, darkness will soon feather us. Tomorrow, in principle, a single long journey home to Sweden. It shall take place at various stages. Will we be home in 24 hours or are we stuck down the road? It has happened sometimes.

Dinner at Casa Vieja.

Saturday 27th of April

07.07 It gushes from a radiator in our room. I just finished my breakfast in this room. Travel is fun; days of transportation home/away with early ascent and primitive breakfast are less fun.

07.48 The journey home has begun. I'm sitting on a bedside. How long is it to the next bedside and where is it located?

08.04 Since the ticket machine did not like either mine or Roberth's card, we had to use coins. Now we have a ticket and go by tram to the bus station here in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

08.25 Our ticket was checked shortly before the station Honduras. Tickets have been bought here at bus station. The bus will soon take us back to Bilbao. In anticipation of it, Roberth and I drink coffee at the Café de Norte a Sur. Christer's just taking it easy.

09.11 Without problems we roll through the Spanish landscape. But what could really go wrong? Today we go by bus with the company La Unión.

09.52 We are back in Bilbao and on Termibus, the city bus station. Now that we have looked around at the somewhat boring bus station, we are waiting for the airport bus. Nearby is San Mamés, a football arena where Athletic Bilbao plays.

09.56 It was a short wait. Sure it's a bit early to go to the airport already now but it's nice to be on the way. We found nothing exciting near Termibus.

10.38 Our bus stopped at the entrances to Bilbao Airport (Bilbo Aireportua). Here we have now located a bench, men's room, luggage cart, information board and a check-in desk. The bench is seated and the men's room is already visited.

Peter is waiting at the Angulema stop.

Coffee stop at the bus station.

Boarding the bus to Bilbao.

Peter is writing down some notes at Termibus station.

On the airport bus through Bilbao.

We are looking at the beautiful square Plaza Moyúa.

11.14 After a smooth check-in of the luggage, we have now enjoyed beverages and cheese and ham sandwiches at Santagloria.

12.20 Things went fine to pass the security check. Here at the gates, we have mostly just moved around. There's a lot of time left for our departure. Roberth bought a soda from Burger King. Now the three of us sit at Starbucks. Here, of course, we drink coffee.

12.53 Jazz music flows from the speakers at Starbucks. The Royal Society has been seated next to us. In simpler words simply the sporting club Real Sociedad from San Sebastián. However, I do not know what kind of sport they are doing. There were some guys and a girl.

13.13 It is necessary to find our gate. I think it will be easy to find it. It's a small airport.

13.37 The gate is now found. Now we are waiting to get on board the bus that will take us out to the airplane.

14.22 We have, for the third time today, travelled by bus. Soon we will fly to the north. Those who run the gate aisles are on strike so that's why it became a bus to the plane.

14.42 We're aboard the plane from Lufthansa. I found a magazine from World Shop in the seat pocket in front of me. It offers everything from an app controlled charcoal grill from Wilhelm Grill for 4999 euros to a Kånken backpack for 89 euros.

GERMANY

17.06 We landed a quarter of an hour late in Frankfurt, this time before our connecting flight departs. It seems that there will not be an overnight stay here this time. Now it will be again dinner at Hausmann's (http://www.hausmanns-frankfurt.de). We've looked forward to that.

17.49 Christer paid for everything and now we will pay him US$23 each.

18.35 To get from Terminal A to Terminal B was an adventure in itself. Twice the elevator went down to floor U1 and twice it went back to Floor 2. When we reached U1 for the third time, I pressed my fingers into the gap between the doors. This made them open. After a following long journey on two lanes and a hike up a staircase, no lift, we are now in Terminal B.

18.55 While we were waiting at gate B12, a man arrived. He took off his shoes, put out a piece of cloth and glanced on his cell phone. After that, he began to pray. The man is a Muslim and probably had some kind of qibla app in his mobile. It showed the direction to Mecca.

Entering Bilbao airport.

Waiting is one of the worst things with traveling.

We are soon landing in Germany.

Sunset at Frankfurt Flughafen.

The sky is beautiful.

We are flying north and the daylight is slowly disappearing.

19.25 Now it's time to take the last flight.

19.53 After a moment of waiting, we got to leave the bus and board the city Jets CRJ 900. Soon we will take off against Stockholm Arlanda. It's a strike at SAS, so it's a good thing we're travelling with another company today.

20.08 The pilot has let us know that we'll have to wait a while to take off. In the worst case scenario, it could take until 20.38. It's not easy to leave Frankfurt.

20.20 It's going to be okay. Let's go. After all, the wait became quite short.

21.17 This feels like a simple, cheap transport. Nothing extra was offered during the flight. At least we've had something to drink.

SWEDEN

22.39 After landing and baggage pick-up we have taken an evening coffee at 7 Eleven. Now we're going to the hotel where we're going to stay one night.

22.57 After some confusion, information search and waiting came so our hotel shuttle, a yellow bus that brings people out to hotels for free. Soon we'll head for First hotel Arlanda.

23.20 It went fine to go to the hotel and quite smoothly to check in. Now we live in Room 221. This feels good. In a shooting in a synagogue in San Diego, four people have been shot. One of the shot has died. The shooter's supposed to be under arrest. From bedside to bedside, it was 15½ hours of travel today. The cyclone Kenneth continues to cause trouble in Mozambique.

Many cancelled flights because of the SAS pilot strike.

Peter is unlocking the door to room 221.

Sunday 28th of April

07.21 I can stay for a long time here in our room. It has been a good night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. However, there will be no remaining. Other things are generating today.

08.05 A breakfast buffet is a good ending to a leisurely Easter trip.

08.50 Our yellow shuttle bus has begun to roll. It takes others and us to Arlanda. We're going home, where are the others going?

09.21 After a moment of waiting for Arlanda, it will soon be train north for the three of us.

Peter in room 221.

First Hotel Arlanda.

09.45 We all sit in cart 2. The destination for all three of us is Sundsvall but it is only the end of the journey for Christer.

11.13 Calmly and quietly we travel through a spring green landscape. Gone are the traces of winter.

13.20 The time of the trinity is over. Now it is each individual task to get home in various ways. For Christer it is a walk. Roberth and I are waiting before he takes the train and I, for my part, take the bus. A lovely Easter holiday is almost over. We're done travelling, but we've had fun every minute.
